  • Just observing, I noticed some really interesting things about the designs of most of the pets:

    1. Leaf Deer is the only pet who's head shot icon is looking in a different direction than how she normally looks. Normally she faces forward (like everyone else), but her headshot has her facing the viewer. Sure the cats kind of face the viewer too, but they're always facing the viewer.

    2. Gladiator Horse is the only pet (though I can't test the Grass version) who doesn't freak out when picked up. In fact, he's crossing his arms and glaring like he's ready to destroy whoever he lands on. I don't have a Universe dragon yet, but if HE freaks out being picked up too, then Gladiator Horse is the most Badtail Kung fu pet right there.

    3. Fire cat, Universe Dragon, and Dark Sabertooth are the only pet with normal paws that stands on their toes. The birds and horses do stand on thier toes because of the natural design of their feet, but every other furry and reptillian pet stands plantigrade, with their entire foot on the ground.

4.The pets are COMPLETELY unfazed by running on a log on LAVA at full speed. I think Leaf Deer's expression on the log sums it up best. She's all like, "Lava? Hmph...Mei must be on a tight budget this year." (Amusingly, My Leaf deer has survived fire hits and the revenge kill is SWEET!)

    5. Leaf Deer, Shopoholic Cat, Rose Fox (though very hard to tell), and Oddet Swan are the only pet who wear close toe shoes. Flower Frillzard and Ninja Turtle wear open toe shoes. Everyone else is bare pawwed.

    6. Tundra Reindeer and Firefrost Unicorn are the only male pets who have distinct eyelashes. They're also the only male pets to have some kind of eye shadow effect (though it's hard to tell with FireFrost Unicorn. All females have some eye shadow effect except Cheerleader Canary (though Fire Cat's is very similar in color)

    7. Flower Frillzard is pretty Awesome in that she non-chalantly strokes the sharp side of her blade with her fingers and doesn't even bleed (but her opponent will).

    8. Candle Weasel reminds me of Sideshow Bob. Gladiator Horse's Juvenile form looks like a Megaman Robot Master, and Antenna Giraffe looks like Melman from Madagascar.

    9. Every Pet uses a different actual fighting style. Some based on chinese or Japanese arts, some based on European arts. There's also the Canadian Tundra Reindeer, even if they all wear chinese warrior based clothing.

    10. The first pet you get, the Forest Lizard, makes the most gold per hour of all pets besides the Universe Dragon himself, but he's restricted to the Forest habitat, that holds the least gold. With the forest booster, he can generate almost 100 gold a minute at level 10.

    11. I remind everyone, the BOOSTERS DO STACK! and they affect the PET'S element, NOT the habitat like the game claims.

    12. I gotta admit, Leaf Deer is the reason I spend so much time playing this game with Flower Frillzard and Fire Cat being close seconds. <3 They're just so wonderfully designed and really capture my eyes, as well as their personalities. (The "Breaks hearts and bones" thing on Leaf Deer's description is what really sold me.)

    13. It's FrilZard, Kao....there's a Z in there.

    14. Half of the pets seem to smile when they get knocked out in the arena. This is especially noticeable with Mini-Me Dragon, and Ice Penguin, among a few others.

    15. NEVER switch out in an arena fight. You need EVERY turn you can get an attack in and sometimes, taking damage may cost you a much needed pet. Even if you switch to a pet who you know can resist all of the opponent's elements, their physical attacks can still usually do at least half health if you're at the higher levels.

Whew, okay, I'll probably find more, but any other oddities or interesting trivia that anyone noticed?

    • 14. ForestattackLightningattack and WaterattackDarkattack, those opposite combo is considered to be unique opposite combo by Social Point games. (Dragon City[1] and Monster Legends)

I've never seen other Breeding games has adopted those opposite combos.

15.Universe element is very similar with Legend element in Dragon City, both takes critical damage by their own element attack and takes weak damage by Physical attack.

      1. Though the opposite element of Dark were changed after Light and War update.

    • That is SO true! I'm used to pokemon so I KIND of get Lightning, but water and dark being unbreedable, yet water and fire are okay is very fascinating. I think the game even comments on how quirky it is. XD

What also perplexes me though is Earth is completely resisted by Air. I really feel like it should be the other way around since we build houses out of rock like material to resist wind chill and hide in underground shelters to avoid tornados. (though given how powerful Tornados really are, maybe that was the logic...but to be completely immune...)

OH and I got another one,

      16. Apparently the worker bunnies can change size. They are scaled based on the size of the building they are building, where the really large habitats make them about the size of the normal Kung fu pets, the Booster towers make them smaller than one of the pet's legs.

FireattackWaterattack opposite combo is very rare in almost of Breeding Games even DragonVale because the Fireattack is very common to against with Iceattack.

Tiny Monsters are only adopted that opposite combo I ever seen.

    • Yeah, then again, Fire and Forest also seem to have no problem breeding. but if you look at it from a "hot versus cold" point of view instead of "chemical" fire versus "frozen water" ice, it makes sense. Maybe the elements are meant to be more literal?

anyway, here are a few more!

      17. Icicle Snowpard is a relative to one of the main NPCs, (distant cousin to Instructor Mei), yet Mini-Me Dragon is not related to Master Chen in any way oddly enough.

      18. Icicle Snowpard is the only pet directly referred to as a deity, being called a "Goddess of Ice" on the facebook site. The Universe Dragon is heavily implied to have deity like status though.

      19. Many of the pet descriptions seem to defend those who would otherwise seem malicious, and make threatening those who would otherwise seem not so powerful. For example, WIld Wolf's description claims that he has a strong sense of honor and would never use his fire sword for anything but justice. Yet Leaf Deer's description claims that she will not only reject your proposal, but she'll shatter your arm if you persist.

      20. Shopaholic Kitty is not the only one who's Kung Fu training for reasons other than actually learning how to fight or defend peace. Many of the pets seem to be training either to make themselves look better (not necessarily stronger), or so they can be the best at whatever their dream job is.

      21. Spring Butterfly makes the most dramatic change between being a baby versus being an adult.

      22. Cranberry Bunny is the only pet who you can't see her legs or feet when fully grown.

      23. Rose Fox and Sunflower Fox seem to be the only exact recolors in the game, though Gladiator Horse and the Forest horse may also be recolors, it's currently impossible to get the Forest horse or see what it looks like. Firefrost unicorn looks similar, though.

      24. Ice Mole and Shopoholic Kitty are the only pets to wear eyewear.

      25. Most pets sleep by laying down, but there are some like Leaf Deer, Fire Cat, and Storm Monkey sleep by meditating. Storm Monkey goes above and beyond by balancing on his tail.

      26. Antenna Giraffe and Air Eagle are the only pets (that I've seen so far) who seem to be clumsy with their weapon.

      27. Xaiolin has some strange criminal problems that ALL involve beating SOMETHING up according to the mirror after the pet is sent away. It was really funny seeing Earth Buffalo swinging around his nun chucks to "host a BIRTHDAY PARTY".

        Loading editor
    • 28.Despite Kung Fu Balls are the objects containing Kung Fu Pets as sealed in 1,000 years ago, some Kung Fu Pets's description says they was from other places such as "Moved to Xiaolin" or "Arrived on Xiaolin".

        Loading editor
    • Amusingly, Shopaholic Kitty's description contradicts itself in that regard. She claims to have arrived to Xaiolin for purposes not even related to martial arts, but yet she exclaims that she's "young again". Does Xaiolin just rebirth people who visit it? Then again, it just takes a ton of food to turn right back into an ageless adult for all eternity. XD

      29. Water pets are seen swimming in the Water habitat. It's presumed they only swim in that habitat.

      30. The Pets apparently drink from the Water habitat water despite other pets swimming in it, yet the Water habitat is the last habitat you can buy. Must be really resiliant to thirst, especially given all that training.

      31. Disappointingly, Instructor Mei doesn't physically interact with your pet in her dojo. INTERESTINGLY, there are multiple Mei's if you somehow get the gems to buy multiple dojos (which just feels awkward).

      32. The same can be assumed for the Bistro owner, but since you don't physicaly see him, it's less...awkward.

      33. I don't know about all games of this genre, but this is one of the few games that has anthros as a collectable pet, rather than ferals like most games. This is also one of few games that makes the genders distinct, yet doesn't refer to the summoning ritual as some kind of mating (probably to keep the whole thing as G rated as possible).

      34. Speaking of G rating, the way the artists drew the females is VERY clevar, without making them look "Mature".

      35. The game seems to have hidden values for attack, defense, AND speed, which is different for each pet. It's why a pet may not survive a Critical hit initially, but after training a little more, they can suddenly survive one. Also, you don't have to fully level up your training level for there to be a boost in your pet's stats. They're always rising.

      36. Food takes FOREVER to harvest. At the fastest rate, you'd get 14400 food per 24 hours (assuming perfect timing and transitioning) per Bistro. That's about enough to fully level up 1 pet to level 10 and a bit more (maybe 11), but no one could feasably stay up that long unless you had a bot do the buying and harvesting for you.

      37. This game apparently has an ending to it. Presumably when you beat all the Quests. You get a Google + achievement for it.

It could includes Tiny Castle(almost of creatues are anthro or human-like thing). And Wooparoo Mountain have (unreleased) anthro Wooparoos. And they may not anthros but Giant Realms also have.

    • And Summon Stones in Wooparoo Mountain also does same error with Kung Fu Balls, those stones are containing Wooparoos as sealed in a lot of times ago but newer Wooparoo's description says Arrived on Wooparoo Village even they will be bought or summoned as Summon Stone.

    • XD! It was really interesting how similar the two games were despite being made by two companies. Both of them have Earth habitats hold the most money and have similar elements. It makes me wonder if there's some kind of template for making these kinds of games? if so, I'd love to make one myself! XD (though I'd need access to a server so it'd just be offline until I get my website up).

Wow! You're right! The Art style also looks pretty similar (only Tiny Castle has a softer shading than Kung Fu pets, it's more like DragonStory).

Lol, those common templates are were made after DragonVale launched, that game is known as the original of these genre.(Dragon Story, Dragon City, Wooparoo Mountain and such Breeding Games are introduced first after the DragonVale).

    • Ah! So DragonVale was the first! That explains a lot! Still with good enough designs, and enough enticement, it looks like one could make a nice easy penny. You always rely on that ONE person to buy the $99 pack and once you get that, you're pretty much sold. This game seems to have come out world wide only a few months ago, so I feel pretty confident. (I have the characters, I just need to actually animate them...goodness that will take forever. cause yeah, I drew my avatar.)

    • Boo yaa. And there's no Phoenix Temple(one of the Four Symbols in eastern world that include [Black] Tortoise, White Tiger and Blue Dragon.) at the moment or just ready to release it like Dragon City(old version has less temples than current version). It means Universe Phoenix will be released later? Also the Tortoise and White Tiger though Tortoise and White Tiger has retired themselves according to description of existing temples but because of the Dark villain one has woke up?

    • It makes me wonder if anyone has reached or challenged the village. He's standing at the spot where the 3rd expansion and 5th expansion are, but nothing seems to happen, I think you have to buy all the expansions to reach him. He's probably a dark type too so Water should help a lot, but can you even challenge him early?

I have a feeling we're going to be seeing a lot more pets come as well. There seems to be so many on the pre-release page they haven't revealed yet. I also feel like we'll probably see something Phoenix related in time, more Universe pets probably and DEFINITELY more Dark pets.

      and for another one:

      39. Master Chen is the only pet who when hatched starts off not only as an adult, but elderly in fact. Oddly enough, The Bistro owner, Mei, and the Stork lady seemed to be fine.

        Loading editor
    • 40. Apparently Forest Lizard is not only an egotist, but he seems to be one of few pets who is actively resented due to thier pride. Fruit Boar also has a negative reputation according to his description.

      41. Swamp Crocodile's description goes out of it's way to claim the Swamp Crocodile is actually kind and regretfully scares people when he shows his teeth. Ice Blade Shark shows no issues with being a bully and in fact takes pride in it. On that note, Ice Blade Shark is the only pet who actively takes pride in being a bully "Fish are FOOD, not Friends! HAHAHA!", whereas even Dark Sabertooth, which the dark attribute implies is supposed to be evil, doesn't show signs of enjoying dishing pain to others.

      42. All pets will bow after beating each other up or being fed. Very nice touch!

      43. Contrary to the turn based way the arena matches are held, the pets can attack each other multiple times in a row when you force them to fight each other on the field. The attacks they use are completely random though and you get about 5 to 10 G every time they do so. Incedently, they do not get Training XP, so this is purely for noting thier comparative speed and power.

      44. Matador Flamingo is a bird with teeth. Despite this, ALL Birds have teeth when they get attacked....I think. (For those who don't know, birds don't have teeth because they have a hard beak).

      45. Odette Swan was apparently dumped for an evil Black Swan. Makes you wonder if said evil Black Swan will appear so she can take her "revenge".

      46. Buy Spring Butterfly 10 pairs of Mary Janes and you'll be a very VERY sad man when she gives you that "pleasant surprise" and evolves (and loses 8 of those legs). Though...maybe you'll be sad anyway. She only has 6 legs as a baby (and 2 arms).

      47. Thunderball Puffer seems to be one of few pets who gained magic through third party means. Makes you wonder how everyone else got thier powers.

      48. Igloo Penguin's description, "The only thing he's fished out are those old boots he's wearing." Next thing you're gonna tell me is Flower Frillzard's shoe laces are untied,  Lightning Hedgehog has something in his eyes, and Fire Cat's hot. (Notice how I go from a complete liar to being perfectly honest as I get more opinionated.)

        Loading editor
    • 49. Spark Buffalo and Earth Buffalo, Wild Wolf and Ice Wolf, and Mini-Me Dragon and Universe Dragon share the same "Species" name (Buffalo, Wolf and Dragon). Though other pets may be the same species as another, they at least use a different variation of the name (e.g. Fire Cat versus Shopaholic Kitty).

        Loading editor
    • Oh gosh! XD I hate to be a perv, but I just randomly visited one town and saw Flower Frillzard and Firefrost Unicorn both sleeping in roughly the same spot. I wouldn't have though much more about it, but they woke up at the EXACT same time! Hmmm, implications.... (Doesn't help that Flower Frillzard sleeps on her back and Firefrost sleeps on his chest).

On the same topic, the guy I visited has like...40 Leaf deer. He knows how to get his money!

        Loading editor
    • 50. When in the arena and doing VS battles, pets take turns to fight. When pets are lifted in order to spar, they battle more realistically, doing moves at around the same time. On one occasion, I have seen sparring end with both pets being knocked backwards at once in a loss.

        Loading editor
    • The really fascinating thing about the same time battle is that it heavily hints at a Speed stat (since my better trained pets sometimes attack twice before one pet strikes once). Yet in the Arenas, it's completely random who attacks first it seems. (I'd do the same battle 3 times in a row and it's random). I do love how they glare so angrily at first, but then bow politley after they win/lose.

      51. Interestingly, this game has only one Fire/Air type, but 4 Ice/Air types, with Aurora Peacock being Fire/Air/Ice. This actually makes getting Wizard Elephant MUCH easier than it seems cause Air Eagle + Fire/Earth pet will force you to get Wizard Elephant (or Air Eagle if you're unlucky).

I am saving up to buy the sixth expansion. As far as actually dealing with him though, I am unsure. It keeps saying you need to have all of the pets in order to even hope to challenge him.

    • Yeah, I'm still farming to get to level 20. Only one person on my friend list (other than Jenny, who seems to be a developer) has the 6th expansion, but there's no "7th expansion sign" on thier screen. Also Level 30 seems to be the highest level you can reach. I'm not sure, but given that there is a credits (you get an achievement for watching it). My best guess is that you have to complete all the Quests. I also noticed that the 8th set of quests is not unlocked, and the bottom of the 7th set says "Coming soon" implying that they're going to add more stuff eventually, kind of like how the Ice pets were added to set 4, 5 and 6. Though beating all the Quests would force you to get every pet anyway.

She is based on Mute swan(Cygnus olor) because her beak is bordered with black. So at least legs of that species is seen as black.

Maybe that design is were decided for bring to her concept(a ballerina).

    • I get the bailerina theme but I kinda think birds legs would be fine XD, its just weird since its the only kung fu pet with a part of its body that doesn't seemt o belong but its not a big deal anyway.

    • Hehe, well in fairness, like I said earlier, most "Birds" have teeth in this game (Even though birds don't naturally have teeth), Leaf deer's feet are really short for that of a deer (normally they have very long feet), the fish have legs in general.

but I do agree Odette Swan does look a bit strange with the way she constantly stands.

        Loading editor
    • Dang! Odette Swan attempted suicide? Gosh that's dark. Her summon quote implies that she tried to kill herself by jumping into a lake after her Boyfriend dumped her. (after all, why else would you jump in a lake when you're miserable?).

Gosh, that just opens more theories to what Xaiolin REALLY is. Could it be a heaven or after life for these pets? Now I'm thinking of coming up with tons of conspiracy theories to how all the other pets died.

Well, I know Thunderball Puffer must've died from electric shock cause that's what his description implies.

Igloo Penguin probably died of starvation.

Snowflake Myna probably froze to death (her quote implies that she no longer minds the cold)

and Air Eagle says he ran into a tree. He probably suffered a concussion.

      Goodness! This is really fascinating!

Though reading some of the other ones...there's implication that some of the pets were always in Xaiolin. So evidently, some pets end up in Xaiolin via death, and some of them were born and raised there.

        Loading editor
    • I think those things gave them powers I dont intepret them as killing them, imagine the puffer was water only after that incident becamse water and electric.

    • Heh, Ah yeah. It's all just speculation (mostly for fun). I always find amusement in trying to interpret a game or story as it "REALLY" is, even if the universe's rules may imply otherwise. Just kind of getting context clues and seeing what conclusion I can go towards, though it may be entirely wrong.

Still, it would explain how they have the powers to summon and command such elements. But regardless, Odette Swan saying that really startled me.

    • Not sure why I noticed, but I saw that the Aloha Hippo is the only pet that shows any cleavage/definition, due to the fact that she wears a coconut bra at adult stage. All of the other females' clothes give nothing away beyond the baby stage.

This may be a controversial post. Collagen, if you don't like the content, fell free to delete it.

    • Well, the other females actually do have breasts, but they're hidden behind a huge tuft of fur. Instructor Mei also has her cleavage showing though as well as Ming (though it's harder to notice with her because she's a bird), but yeah, Aloha Hippo is the only pet distinctly wearing a bra.

But in fairness, it's the males who look a bit odd this time. Having torsos many times the size of thier legs. It makes me wonder what they would look like if they had the room to do full blown anthro art of every character instead of the chibi art they're restricted to. We've seen Fire cat has all sorts of amazing looks and Leaf Deer looks way more mature in the official artwork than she does in game. (I'd take it upon myself to do some fan art....but a quick google will showcase that I'd have no place to safely put it...., it's the reason I didn't upload a full drawing of Solera).

Oh and for those curious, Bendable swords CAN exist and are as deadly as they sound. Very tough weapon to master as imagine a whip where instead of being made up of wounded leather, every section is a small blade. Deadly.

To further authenticate your response, I am a practitioner of Chu Gar. I suppose in American terms, you would be more familiar with southern mantis. I recollect when we were introduced to a weapon from India called an Urumi. It is exactly as you describe, and incredibly difficult to handle. I cut myself more times than I care to admit... Ironically, it can be worn like a belt when not in use, with little threat of actually hurting you. It's design is pretty much akin to a talwar or schimitar, except that the method of utilizing it is much more extensive. It should be noted that in some Chinese styles, the expression of real fah-jing -- explosive energy or power is one way of translating that term -- with a weapon is often associated with a slight vibration in the tip, signifying that the power did not get trapped at the elbow, wrist, or hand, but traveled all the way through the weapon (and into the theoretical opponent's body). This visible vibration is often called the plum flower. It is most commonly seen or manifested with staffs, spears, or polearms, though it can also sometimes be seen in swordplay. The plum flower is difficult to achieve when you're using a weapon that was designed for actual combat, though it is not impossible. War weapons are stiffer and heavier because more often than not, they needed to be. While the Urumi and other bending blades are good at handling multiple targets, typically capable of fatal lacerations and difficult to gauge or guard with their unpredictability, it does not work well upon metal armor, stone armor, or other resistant surfaces. The same is true in consideration of the katana, as well as many other oriental weaponry. Metal armor was rare in the oriental areas, reserved only for the wealthiest, and even then still fairly sparing. You will not see an iron knight in China clad from toe to head in metal. Most of the oriental weaponry was designed to pierce. You do not slash a man in armor with a katana, instead you penetrate a soft point of the armor. The katana is meant for flesh, and it will struggle to cleave metal with damaging results, mainly to the blade iteself. Again this theory holds true with the Urumi. If you can coil a blade upon exposed flesh, then your opponent may as well surrender that portion of their body, because a small jerk is all it takes to sever it from them. But on metal, it would have little effect. Sorry for the off-topic history lesson... At any rate, and on topic, I would be interested to see more diversity in the weapons that the pets use. There were many fascinating weapons from China. The pú dāo being a prime example, or the seven foot behemoth chángdāo. From the game I have only noted a small array of unique class weapons. Air eagle utilizes what looks to be Lùjiǎodāo. Water dolphin seems to be using a yuèyáchǎn, often called a crescent moon spade. Call me the friendly neighborhood weapon enthusiast.

    • That was an amazing lesson actually! of all the weapons the pets use, the Aurora Peacocks struck me as the most fascinating because it's a bendy ice sword and while I've never really seen one IRL used in combat, I've seen real live ones in museums and various toys made basd on them (I actually had a toy like it at one point, it had very blunt edges so it couldn't actually hurt anyone and made of plastic, but was fun to play around with). There are so many interesting weapons and even fighting styles, and KFP does a great job of showcasing the diversity of the fighting styles, even from around the world. It also seems interesting that based on your description, none of the pets's weapons seem to be optimized for armor (except maybe Gladiator Horse's massive cleaver), but instead seem to be almost artistic in their usage, (especially Aloha Hippo, who uses sound waves to damage her opponent, and...as a joke, Tundra Reindeer uses his "Dashing good" looks. XD) Flower Frillzard's sword seems to bend as well, with the way she strokes it during her victory animation and Leaf deer's fan, the fan is USUALLY used for preformances, rather than for combat, implying that they may actually be "Preformers" more than fighters and thier "Training" is actually practice for putting on a show that celebrates all forms of martial arts.

Of all the attack animations though, I have to say Bamboo Panda's is probably my favorite. the way he throws the bamboo stick, then slams the other two on it to catch the first one. tell me that's not ART!

Second place goes to Igloo Penguin cause it just looks awesome how he flings the rod and pulls it back.

    • Believe it or not, Bamboo Panda's fighting style is more resemblant to Tai Shing (Monkey style), if I had to place it, I'd say it would be a cross of Standing Monkey,  Stone Monkey, and Wooden Monkey, with evident influences of Da Sheng Pi Gua. The attack you are talking about, in regards to him, is based on a technique using a sānjiégùn. A three section staff. This weapon along with other staffs, are a common weapon for the style. Truth is, there is no panda style martial form lol, sorry Po.

    • Ok, about the pets growing by feeding them, could someone make a chart of how much they grow from level to level, and i don't mean it like those three images of the forest lizard. The reason i am asking, is because i am wondering what is their max size before they stop growing when they level up.

Their max size is simply the level 20 size. They constantly grow with each level up. There's theoretically no upper limit except for the level cap.

    • How can we make a chart of that? Oo at most we have to get every pet and feed them from 1 to 20 and that takes a lot of time.

I think they keep growing till they are level 20, I think my Peacock just grew from 18 to 19 yesterday but I can get if pets past 15 still level up, I'm just waiting to get a feeding quest so I don't waste food.

    • Monk Dugong is the only Kung Fu Pet who doesn't stand with it's foot(-kind). Not sure he can stand with his fins-like foot in game.

    • Have anyone else noticed that the minion pets of Taichi are different in some of their appearance?, one example is the dark eagle, he is normaly a fire or ice pet, but i noticed that when he attacked me as a fire pet, his flame on the top of his head was different from his privious attack, namingly being much larger than normal, so i was thinking, could the differences show how powerful they are? like small flame, possibly at lv 15 or so, and a large flame might be of lv 20. I don't know.

    • Yes they change depend on the stars and typing, 3 stars chest dark pets are bigger and stronger than one star dark pets, the Crocodile hat changes color depending on the typing same as the Crow/Eagle/Hawk tuf of hair on top of its head.

    • Apparently, Cupid Cat is the ONLY pet who doesn't change his look at all regardless of his age. The only thing that changes is his hair, the position of his heart badge, and he gets shoes as an adult. Guess he's ageless?

And his arrows change: none, pink fletchings, gold fletchings.

He's a cupid, so maybe the developers tried to make him baby-ish as possible.
